Letter of application

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing with regard to an advertisement I saw in the newspaper a week ago. I am a professional EFL teacher and I would like to join the teacher staff of your school.

I graduated as a EFL teacher from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso recently. Despite being quite Young, I have gained experience doing practicums and I have done private clases of English since I was 16 years old. Also, I have sat for International Exams that certificate my level of English.

I am really interested in public education, that is why I am applying for the job in this particular school. I am very patient and I would prefer to work with kids because I am certain that children have the capacity to acquire a second language better, Although I have no problema dealing with teenagers. I am also able to help doing extra reinforce for those students with lower level of english.

In addition, I enclose my CV and I would be very happy to attend an interview at your earliest convenience. You can send me an email to paulina@gmail.com or you can call me anytime at 87654321.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to ask for more information about the "Deep-sea diving in the Indian Ocean" holyday which I saw advertised in a magazine last week. My friends and I are very interested in doing this journey but first, we would like to know more details.

Firstly, we are all college students so we were wondering if you offer discounts for gropus or if you give reductions fo students because we would like to make a reservation as long as we can pay for it, so  it would be grateful if you could give me details about what the prices include.

Secondly, we are slightly worried since we do not speak the native language, so we would like to know whether your service provides a translater or if we would have to hire one. If that happens to be the case, could you please recommend one to us?

Another query I have is about accommodation. I wonder if accomodation is included in the price and what sort of accommodation you provide. Also I would like to know if transport from the airport to the hotel is included in the Price.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,
P. Vega

Writing Test: Music can not heal people

Much research has been carried out about music's beneficial effects on people's life;however, it has not been proved yet that it has the capacity of curing people by itself.

A large number of scientista have studied effects of music in people and it has been proved that it can improve or affect certain physical and emotional aspects aswell. For instance, music makes the body release endorphins, which is a hormone related to love and it is responsible for happy emotional states. It can also improve your cognitive skills, specially classical music.

Despite all these positive effects of music, there is no reliable information about music curing a person's disease, so it can not be said that music can heal people with the rightful meaning of the word "heal". In other words, music can not cause an undesirable health condition to be overcome.

To sum up, music can not heal people. However, due to its beneficial consequences (specially emotional), it can be used to treat patients with diseases that have to do with mood or psychological issues, for example, depression.

Description of an event: Freshmen's Reception

Last Thursday I went to the freshmen's reception. It took place at the university where all the second year students were were waiting for the first year students.

The event kicked off with the monologue of our classmate Javier Cáceres, who made everyone laugh with some funny facts about what it is like to be a teacher of English. The event continued with the conversation of students of different generations who shared their lived experiences through the years.

The most important part of the event was the meeting between the first year students with their "godmothers/godfathers". It was a beautiful moment, specially for the freshmen because it was a surprise for them. They seemed very happy to know that there is going to be an older student able to help them and answer their questions about the career.

The freshmen's reception should be done for many more years. It makes the relationship between students stronger and it takes a lot of team work to prepare a great reception, so hopefully it will become a tradition.

Argumentative Essay

When we think about discoveries related to science, the first names that come to our minds are Einstein, Darwin, Newton… mainly male names, but science is not a discipline just for men.

Throughout time, science has always been associated to men because historically in past times women were supposed to stay at home and to take care of children. Studying and discovering were not a female activity and that is closely related to the fact that it is hard to think of a female scientist.

However, there are –although a few- female involved in historical scientific contributions for example Marie Curie, Jane Goodall and Jocelyn Bell. There may be many others, but maybe they have not got the credit they deserve or maybe they are not famous enough to be named immediately after asking someone about scientific discoveries.

Not all the discoveries have been done by men and science is not a discipline that only men can participate of. The amount of women studying at universities is increasing so maybe in the future, this topic will be no longer a matter of discussion.
