Throughout
time, science has always been associated to men because historically in past
times women were supposed to stay at home and to take care of children.
Studying and discovering were not a female activity and that is closely related
to the fact that it is hard to think of a female scientist.
However,
there are –although a few- female involved in historical scientific contributions
for example Marie Curie, Jane Goodall and Jocelyn Bell. There may be many
others, but maybe they have not got the credit they deserve or maybe they are
not famous enough to be named immediately after asking someone about scientific
discoveries.
Not all the
discoveries have been done by men and science is not a discipline that only men
can participate of. The amount of women studying at universities is increasing
so maybe in the future, this topic will be no longer a matter of discussion.
